Paint Preparation is Key

Painting is more than just buying a can of paint and applying a coat to the surface.
A certain amount of preparation is necessary to ensure the surfaces are conditioned and the paint adheres well.
The results will look crude and the paint could possibly peel or crack.
It's way more important for us to condition and repair the surface, so a protective coating is applied.
It’s not always necessary to remove paint before applying a new coat of paint or stain, but if the old paint is chipping and flaking, we'll need to remove loose paint chips, if we plan on getting good adhesion to the surface being painted.
This is especially true if we are working with older homes and to surfaces that have many old layers of paint.
